New Focus Pages For West TV Switchover

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

We have several new additions to our series of locally-focused TV switchover pages, all of them concentrating on the South West of the UK – Sedgemoor in Somerset and two for Gloucestershire (one for Stroud and surrounding towns and one for South Gloucestershire). All three of these areas switch in two stages on March 24th and April 7th and it’s hoped that these pages will give you an idea of the channels and services you’ll be able to get both before and after the big switch.

If you’d like us to focus on your area and we haven’t done so yet, please let us know!

New Digital Switchover Information

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

The first three of our digital switchover case studies are now live on the site – this is where we focus on an area of the UK and check the results for 3 random postcodes in the postcode checkers for Sky, Virgin Media and BT, as well as finding out all of the relevant information from Digital UK for that area.

First up are the borough of Wyre near Preston in Lancashire, the city of Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire and the London Borough of Southwark. More to follow!

Digital Switchover – is radio next?

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

The digital TV switchover is in full swing, having started with Whitehaven in Cumbria in 2007 and continuing until everyone in the UK is switched over in 2012 (just in time to watch the Olympics!), so the next change on the agenda has to be digital radio. The initial report has been completed by the Digital Radio Working Group, who have no set timetable yet but estimate that all radio could in theory be digital by 2020, although they stress that listeners would have to be given at least 2 years notice before any switch took place. In the home a lot of people have access to digital radio through their Sky TV or Virgin Media services, not to mention Freeview and BT Vision, but what about in the car? There must be a real opportunity for car audio manufacturers to produce good value digital radios for in-car use too.
